Tater Tots [Plant-Based, Oil Free, Kid-Friendly, Easy]

What is better than a tater tot?


I can't think of many things that top homemade tater tots or even turning this dish into a tater tot casserole!


I know, sounds amazing right?


Homemade tater tots are much easier than you may think.


I've included three different ways you can create homemade tater tots with any potato you already have - frozen, fresh, regular or sweet!

Frozen Hash Brown Tater Tots

By: The Jaroudi Family

Makes 27-30 Tater Tots


Ingredients

One package of frozen hash browns (20oz)

1 tbsp white miso


Seasoning:

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp dehydrated bell pepper (or smoked paprika)

1/4 tsp crushed fennel

1/4 tsp dried basil

1/4 tsp dried parsley

1/4 tsp oregano


Directions

+Steam the entire package of frozen hash browns

+Place cooked hash browns into a large bowl and let cool

+Add in white miso and seasoning to hash brown mixture

+Form tater tot shapes (1tbsp-2tbsp) and place on baking sheet lined with parchment paper

+Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes, flip tater totes over and cook for an additional 20 minutes.


[Optional - Air Fry tater tots for 18-20 minutes at 400 degrees]

Fresh Tater Tots

Makes 30-35 Tater Tots


Ingredients

Around six cups of cubed potatoes with the skin - we used Yukon Gold!

1/2 cup non dairy milk (unflavored and unsweetened)

1 tbsp white miso

1 tbsp garlic powder

1 tbsp onion powder

1 tbsp smoked paprika


Directions

+In a large pot add in six cups of cubed potatoes and fill with water just until potatoes are covered, and simmer on the stove

+Cook until potatoes are tender and drain water

+Mash potatoes, add in non dairy milk, white miso, and seasonings

+Let potato mixture cool

+Form tater tot shapes (1tbsp-2tbsp) and place on baking sheet lined with parchment paper

+Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes, flip tater totes over and cook for an additional 20 minutes.

Sweet Potato Tater Tots

Makes 14-16 Tater Tots


Ingredients

4 cups of roasted sweet potatoes (without the skin!)

2 tbsp ground flax meal

1 tbsp white miso

1 tbsp garlic powder

1 tbsp smoked paprika

Fresh ground pepper

Directions

+Mash cooked roasted sweet potatoes (without the skin) with ground flax meal, white miso, and seasoning.

[If you have extra time refrigerate sweet potato mixture for 30 minutes]

+Form tater tot shapes (1tbsp-2tbsp) and place on baking sheet lined with parchment paper

+Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes, flip tater totes over and cook for an additional 15 minutes.


[Optional - Air Fry tater tots for 18-20 minutes at 400 degrees]
