Whole Food Plant Based Bloomin' Onion and Dipping Sauce

Updated: Jun 30, 2020

Ready to impress the family with an awesome bloomin' onion recipe?

It's actually very easy to make once you've done it once or twice.

I highly recommend watching our video on this recipe, since I walk you through the steps of cutting the onion. Once you've cut the bloomin' onion you are over the "hardest" part.

I like to compare this recipe to a very fancy onion ring and the perfect appetizer at any get-together you might have. I also highly recommend making our dipping sauce along with the bloomin' onion, it really is a great addition to the crunchy and savory onion.

Our recipe will work an air fryer or baking it in the oven, just check the times/degrees depending on which appliance you are using.

Whole Food Plant Based Bloomin' Onion

By: The Jaroudi Family

Ingredients

1 large onion

2/3 cup + 3 tbsp oat flour (any flour will work)

1 cup non-dairy milk unsweetened

3/4 cup bread crumbs (I used whole wheat)

1 tbsp nutritional yeast

1 tbsp garlic powder

1 tbsp smoked paprika

Directions:

+Cut the large onion into a bloomin' onion

(See Video Directions)

+Slice off onion stem and set onion on flat side. Cut an inch from the root down, into 12 to 16 sections, being careful not to cut all the way through. Flip over and gently pull out sections of onion to separate petals.

+Mix together the oat flour and non-dairy milk in a medium size bowl to create batter.

+Mix together the bread crumbs and seasonings in another bowl.

+Dip the bloomin' onion into the batter mixture, cover well - even in-between onion petals

+Move the bloomin' onion to the breadcrumb mixture. Get breadcrumbs mixture all around onion and in-between onion petals as well

+Move bloomin' onion onto parchment paper.

+Air fry at 400 degrees for 10-15 minutes (12 minutes was the time mine took)

+Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes

Best served warm and with our dipping sauce!
